Sport

Sport is a key feature of our School, which nurtures resourcefulness. Involvement in sport develops the courage to make brave decisions, to take risks, to face mental and physical challenges and sometimes to cope with disappointment.

Physical Education and Games lessons are an integral part of the weekly timetable and are structured to allow the children to gain experience of various activities and to understand the enjoyment that can be gained from a healthy lifestyle.

The principal seasonal games include:

  • Soccer
  • Cricket
  • Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Netball
  • Short tennis

There are fixtures against other schools as well as inter-house events where many children participate. Inter-school ixtures are played on a weekly basis against other schools from the age of nine. Matches have a competitive edge, but the children learn that being sporting in both victory and defeat is as important as the skills themselves.

Swimming

Throughout the year children from the age of five upwards have weekly swimming lessons under the guidance of qualified instructors at the Riverside Centre in Stafford. Graded proficiency badges and life saving certificates can be earned. There is also an annual swimming gala where parents are invited along to support.

Sports Day

In the summer an award scheme in athletics culminates in Sports Day where each child has the chance to enter a competitive track or field event. Younger pupils have their own Sports Day with a combination of running and obstacle races.
